South Beach Casino & Resort

★★★☆☆ Scanterbury, Manitoba, Canada 4.2/5 from 2463 guest reviews

A three-star resort on Ocean Drive that punches above its class in guest affection — staff, food, and return visits dominate the chorus. I stayed through a July night to feel the rooms, the sleep, and that Manitoba quiet outside the doors.

“The rooms and hotel are always clean, and the people are always friendly and very accommodating.” James Tyrrell · Google

The room hit me first with space and soft light. Curtains opened onto a calm outdoor edge of the property, the bed looked inviting in that immediate way, and the suite layout gave us room to spread out without feeling like a conference corridor. Spotless surfaces — even where finishes felt a touch dated — matched what families keep saying.

Night settled differently here than in a city tower. Outside noise dropped away; inside, the building carried occasional late footsteps but nothing that stole the whole night. I slept well — dark enough, cool enough, and far from the casino’s brighter pulse once the door clicked shut.

Check-in was cheerful and efficient. Keys landed quickly, and the walk to the room used an elevator link that guests praise for connecting pool areas and floors without a scavenger hunt.

Morning started at the complimentary water and coffee bar — a small ritual guests rave about — then breakfast plates that leaned generous. The food energy people write about is real; plan to share or take leftovers seriously.

Stepping outside on Ocean Drive in Scanterbury, Manitoba, you feel the open setting immediately. This is not a downtown grid. On foot, the resort campus is the story, with the wider landscape reading quiet and wide.

One honest annoyance, kept in proportion: the bathtub was slicker underfoot than I liked. Guests flag the same safety note. It did not ruin the stay; it did make me careful.

For my trip, the location worked because I wanted a contained resort night — dinner, a little play, a pool look-in, and a room that felt cared for. If you need a dense walkable neighbourhood outside the doors, this is a different kind of stay.

Where I slept

Light and space

Daylight filled the room without glare. The footprint felt generous for a three-star stay — especially with a kitchenette stretch that families mention when they upgrade for space.

The bed

The mattress did the quiet work of a good overnight: supportive, unfussy, ready after a full evening on property.

The feeling

It felt spotless and welcoming more than brand-new. That combination — dated in places, immaculate everywhere — is the South Beach room story in miniature.

The case for it

Come for the people and the self-contained resort rhythm. Guests compare it favourably to louder destinations and keep booking anniversary and holiday returns.

Staff who remember you

Named employees and accommodating desk moments fill the review set.

Food worth planning around

Portions and praise for dining show up even when other notes are mixed.

Clean, comfortable rooms

Immaculate stays are a refrain across couples and families alike.

Pool-and-play campus

Pool, hot tub, and on-site play keep evenings easy without leaving.

What we noticed

Friendly teams

From desk to banquet staff, warmth is the loudest theme.

Spotless stays

Guests call rooms and public areas immaculate again and again.

Generous plates

Food size and flavour fuel return Christmas and anniversary trips.

Getting there

“I recently stayed at your property and wanted to share my experience. Overall, I had a very enjoyable visit. Your staff were welcoming, friendly, and professional, and they made me feel valued throughout my stay. The facility was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, which made for a relaxing experience. I especially appreciated the excellent customer service and the pleasant atmosphere. It is clear that your team works hard to make guests feel welcome, and I am grateful for their efforts. I would like to offer one suggestion for improvement. The bathtub in my room was extremely slippery and could pose a safety risk, particularly for older guests or anyone with mobility concerns. Replacing the tub with a walk-in shower, or installing a non-slip surface and sturdy grab bars, would greatly improve guest safety. Thank you for providing such a pleasant experience. I look forward to visiting your property again and will gladly recommend your property to family and friends. Sincerely, Inder”

It was amazing, the pool the food the rooms the staff absolutely everything was so amazing. Did I mention the food, well oh my goodness!!! It is so good and huge, think about sharing or plan on eating the leftovers, cause you don't want to waste. I can't wait for Christmas this year just to go again.”

“My wife and I always love going to South Beach we find everything great. The rooms and hotel are always clean, and the people are always friendly and very accommodating. My wife and I went to Vegas last year and we were talking we would have been happier at South Beach. And hats off to Julian we decided to stay another night and he went out of his way so we wouldn’t have to change rooms. The food is good and the pool and hot tub were definitely refreshing. Hats off to all the employees”

“We decided to celebrate our 42nd Anniversary with an overnight stay at South Beach Resort. The staff were friendly and the hotel was immaculate. We had a great dinner and played some slots. The Play and Stay deal included food vouchers and slot vouchers. The room rate was affordable. A great deal overall.”

“The staff here are lovely. I stayed for four days with my husband and 3 yr old and it was very comfortable. The room was a king suite and it was definitely worth the extra for all the space and the kitchen. The room was a bit dated, but it was spotless! Location is out in the middle of nothing, but Selkirk is 30 min away and it has everything you may need. The mango is the main restaurant I could visit with my son, it was okay food- 5/10(again the staff were so nice). The arcade is very small. The pool area is stunning but the water is very cold, I liked how there was a bathroom right in the pool area and an elevator from there to the rooms. I really appreciated the water and coffee bar that was complimentary to guests, let me fill up our water bottles every morning and start our day off with tea and coffee 10/10. I would definitely recommend this hotel to people, especially adults. Oh and the membership is worth getting 100%, even for the room discount.”
